Georgia Rugby Coach Repatriated by AIMS
In July 2021 there was much excitement among sports fans as the Springboks planned to host two rugby test matches against Georgia, in South Africa. Sadly, after the first game the second test had to be cancelled when Covid-19 infections were reported by both teams.
One of those infected with Covid-19 was Georgia’s senior national team coach Levan Maisashvili. Maisashvili’s infection soon became serious and he was admitted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.
As things took a turn for the worst, he had to be ventilated and sedated in order to allow his body time to focus on fighting the Covid-19 virus. Maisashvili was in hospital for two months before he came out of the induced coma and started to show signs of recovery.
Maisashvili found his treatment while in South Africa was very attentive, as the doctors and nurses were involved in managing his condition daily. All the medical personnel of the hospital were highly qualified professionals and the multiprofile hospital itself is equipped with the newest medical technologies.
After this long ordeal he was able to safely return to Georgia and the Rugby Federation. AIMS was responsible for successfully repatriating him back to his home country with the assistance of one of our doctors, Dr Nadia Swart.
The patient found that Dr Swart was very attentive and professional while he travelled. The AIMS team ensured that the patient felt secure and safe during the whole flight.
